I still send birthday cards in the mail. It is a joy to me, and even though I send them every year, my friends and family are always surprised and delighted. I have no idea how to send you a message (old lady problems), but I would love a postcard!
Beautiful idea. I always hunt out the vintage postcards. The notes written are so fascinating and makes me wonder about the travels and also about the connections.
I also love this. When I go to markets or antique shops, I love looking at the words in different penmanship written to loved ones far away. It's funny how when we share such simple things in our own handwriting, it feels more personal and intimate. I have saved many hand written letters from my parents and write daily letters to my daughter that I stick in her backpack or dance bag. Someday she'll be able to look back at the ones she saved and reflect on my words to her. Loved this post.
My old soul loves this deeply. I may head out today in search of postcards. As I’m writing this I’m reminded that I actually hand-delivered a thank you card to a neighbor just yesterday. Maybe there is hope!
My friends and I send letters to each other! Last week I printed some pictures and mailed them to friends and family, my daughters decorated the envelopes and cards. So this idea of postcards is brilliant ❤️ I wrote a letter to Ann Patchett, my favorite author and she sent me a hand written postcard back. It made me so happy to see her signature and her handwriting with my name on it
This is amazing!! I told my husband last year that he should write his favorite author because wow many people assume authors here from fans all the time, it’s easier to get critiques these days than it is to get encouragement. He wrote him a letter and they’ve been corresponding ever since. I love that you got a postcard back too!💌
This may sound cheesy, but you’re one of my favorite writers, Joy! Oh my goodness… I’m actually having a moment right now remembering something.. if my mama brain isn’t failing me, I “learned” about improv after reading a post you did MANY years ago on said blog you mentioned … it inspired me to join an improv group which were some of the best memories of my life pre-kids!!!
Currently leaving Italy with a half dozen postcards tucked in my backpack.
Yesssss!
oooh yes!! I just found a book I bought at the Grand Canyon! My dad just went into hospice and my goal is to send him one a week!
I am so sorry about your dad. It sounds like he has a really loving and caring daughter. (-:
thanks friend!

I am always so touched when someone remembers my birthday and sends a card. It feels like the job of our grandparents and then our parents and then...

Yes! It's like stepping into another era!

Daily letters to your daughter! What a champion! She will remember how it made her feel and I bet she does it for her kids one day.
I love this! I have a friend, she and her husband send postcards. I love receiving them in the mail.
I am going on the search of postcards.
Thank you for the great idea!!
I love postcards because they are little mini pieces of art floating around in the world. You are on an art hunt!

Bravo!! Keep up the writing and the hope! Thank you for sharing.
