You’re on an elevator with your favorite author and only have time to ask them one quick question.
WHAT DO YOU ASK???
I believe questions are the easiest lift and gateway to human connection. So, to keep practicing the skill I hope humanity doesn’t lose (whoa, this is getting heavy), I’m kicking off this FUN 20-minute summer series called:
ONE QUICK QUESTION: AUTHOR TO AUTHOR
Here’s the deal: The extent of our prep is to think of ONE good question to ask the other author. Could be about our books, writing, life, or breakfast. But a good question about breakfast.
We each have seven minutes and one question.
More questions can follow during the seven minutes, but I am asking each author to only prep one because I believe that having only one prepared question increases active listening and meaningful engagement.
We are pushing our brains to pay attention and to be curious in the moment.
My book, Beega Gets a Do-Over, was written with the hope that the communication principles my father and I believe we all need can be learned through practice. None of us are perfect communicators, but whether we are six years old or sixty, the only way we are going to improve, is to give ourselves grace when we screw up and try again.
The thing I want to practice this summer? Continuing to think of my own questions (like I did last week for Matt) and stay naturally curious about the people around me. Hopefully this series will prompt others to ask:
“What’s one quick question I could ask someone about themselves today?”
All it takes is a few thoughtful moments and a little courage to ask, and it could lead to more than you could imagine!
Thank you to my incredible author, Tylee Shay, for joining me for the FIRST episode in this fun series. She gave great ideas for how to make sure that Summer ‘26 is one not to forget!
Love,
Joy
