Making Friends as an Adult (gulp)

The one where I give Liz an environmentally unfriendly idea for her friendship conundrum and we both agree there is a case for casting the net wide.
3

I keep feeling like each episode is my fav, but this on may actually have been. If you feel like your friendship making muscles have greatly atrophied in adulthood—you’ll feel seen here!

And if making friends isn’t an effort for you, we’d like you to listen in and tell us what you’ve learned that might be helpful for others.

As I’ve said before, some of the episodes we post later and others disappear for all eternity. (AKA sitting in my drafts folder.) So if you want to join us live, that’s always the most fun. Make sure you subscribe to get the link when we are on!

Highlights from the Episode

Going Phone-Free in Switzerland
00:00:00

I turned my phone off for eight days straight. A rare, radical act that led to deeper questions about modern life, digital overload, and the dream of going “off-grid.”

(Contemplating this topic as a future episode, what do you think?)

The Book Club That Didn't Happen
00:11:41
Liz realizes she doesn’t have deep friendships at her kids’ school—and how starting a book club felt like the answer. We talked through that journey of slight rejection and I told her that she set her bar too high with who she asked.

“Look for the Losers” & Build the Table
00:21:40 – 00:24:30
Liz wisely explains how it’s better to cast the net wide and look for others who are in a similar situation rather than trying to sit at “the cool kids” table.

Starting 'Women Work and Wine' in Paris
00:35:00
Liz and I chat about Women Work in Wine and why I started it post-pandemic. (If you are interested in starting something similar, let me know. I’d like to share what I’ve learned that has worked and not worked so far.)

Hope to see you soon!

Love,

Joy
